This is a team chess tournament with four boards per team. Teams can have up to six players, but only four can play each round. There are three sections: P5 and Under, P7 and Under, and Secondary. Register here
Members of chess clubs or school teams should, wherever possible, enter as a team rather than as individuals. Please contact your school or club first to see if they are entering a team. Players can only play for clubs if their school isn't entering a team.
Teams will need a team manager to act as the point of contact and be responsible for the team on the day. Communication will be via the team manager to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Individual entries are reserved for players who are not members of a club or school team. Places are limited and individuals will be assigned to teams short of players.
All teams must be made up of players living in the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian, or The Scottish Borders Council areas only.
The tournament will have five or six rounds with Swiss pairings, so as far as possible, all teams will play all rounds. Time control: all moves in 25 minutes.
Please ensure teams arrive at the venue by 9:15am for a 9:30am start, with prize-giving ending around 4:30pm. See the Additional Information below for details of team composition and board order.
ENTRIES — Entry closes at midnight on Thursday 13th November.
Team entries: £20 if paid before midnight on Wednesday 12th November, £25 thereafter. Teams can pay on the day by using the PAYONDAY code in the discount field. You can enter a team without player details and amend your entry later, but player details must be provided by midnight Thursday 13th November.
Individual entries: £5 if paid before midnight on Wednesday 12th November, £8 thereafter. Individuals must pay online and live in The Lothian and Borders Region. Individual entries will be assigned to a composite team. If you’re unsure if your school or club is entering a team, please get in touch for contact details.
Children in receipt of Free School Meals can enter for free.
